With all of the things that this slightly upscale bar offers its patrons, it’s hard to notice the fairly good burger buried away on the menu. Our team headed there recently and found that you can get a decent hot burger in a cool setting.
Handleability: 2.5 points out of 5
- Good bun (which is the same at Miracle of Science), but the burger slipped and fell apart for all of our testers.
Value: 3 points out of 5
- Parallel with the audience, the food here isn’t cheap. However, unlike other places that think of themselves as gourmet, Audobahn doesn’t skimp on the portions and serves a “filling” burger size – just about the right proportion.
Sides: 4 points out of 5
- The pot stickers are a plus as a must-have appetizer order. Potatoes are good alternative to fries, with a nice gourmet touch of rosemary.
Presentation/Creativity: 2 points out of 5
- Our drinks service was extremely slow. Ration of toppings to burgers is bad. The homemade ketchup is good… err… well, different. It’s almost like salsa. It bites back at you. Not much options on burger options except for interesting cheese choices (like Asiago). But the cheese was cold when we got it. Did we mention the very attractive wait staff? That should account for something.
Overall Taste: 3.5 points out of 5
- The burger was a little dry, but it tastes better than average. But unfortunately it was cooked to order incorrectly. One tester’s medium rare was too cooked, the other had medium which was too rare.

For our next trip, we went down the street to Bukowski’s in Inman Square. The edgy vibe of the place doesn’t scream “burgers,” but we thought that we would try it again given the cult-following the establishment has developed in the past few years. While the burgers weren’t awful, our testers were more impressed with the taste of the various beers available as opposed to the plates of food in front of us.
Handleability: 4 points out of 5
- When our burgers were served, we were able to grasp them without too much difficulty. And the egg bun… nice quality touch. The toppings did fall out a little after a while, especially the chili burger, but that’s too be expected.
Value: 2.5 points out of 5
- Rumor has it that it’s cheaper after midnight… is this true?
Sides: 3.5 points out of 5
- When your oh-so-hip and waitress comes to ask what you want to drink, you’ll be blown away by the amazing beer list. With so many quality choices, it’s hard to select bad one. When the burger arrives, the average fries on the plate here are only OK. Accompanying pickle was a noticeable plus, and the bacon is pretty good as well.
Presentation/Creativity: 3.5 points out of 5
- Creativity with all of the types of available burgers is nice. Our testers weren’t sure if anyone would actually want a peanut butter burger, but it’s there if that’s your thing. We were, though, suspicious of the fake charbroil marks left on the burgers and didn’t care for the serving basket – that’s not for burgers. Overall, the presentation left us unexcited.
Overall Taste: 2.5 points out of 5
- Lot’s of plusses to this place, but the reason to come isn’t for the burgers.

For our inaugural post, we headed to R.F. O’Sullivan’s, which is consistently rated to be one of Boston’s best burger joints. Like all of our reviews, we stepped in with an open mind and an empty stomach, looking to critique the burger along five key qualities that all burgers should strive towards. And for our opening visit, this burger turned out to be a real treat despite some very messy hands. This burger sets some a very high bar for future reviews to be measured against.
Handleability: 1.5 points out of 5
- Unfortunately, we started off our visit on a down note, as some of our testers mentioned that they couldn’t imagine anything less handleable than this sandwich. Ouch!
Value: 3 points out of 5
- $8.25 for burger and fries, which might sound like a lot – BUT you get a lot for your money.
Sides: 2.5 points out of 5
- The fries have too much potato, not enough fry. They’re big and mushy inside; not the ideal french fry consistency you would want to pair with a great tasting burger.
Presentation/Creativity: 4 points out of 5
- The first thing that you notice when you open the menu here is the wide variety of burgers available. There are lots of styles available (ours is the Black and Blue burger… blackened and topped with blue cheese). Plus, there’s a rotating menu of new addition to add even more variety.
Overall Taste: 4 points out of 5
- Despite some of the drawbacks noted above, it’s extremely hard to argue that the taste of this burger is truly superb. The meat is exactly cooked to order - they actually do medium rare with a pink middle, for example. Definitely worth seeking out this place.
